Case Study: How and Why ESB added Welcome Boxes to their Onboarding Process
Who is ESB?
ESB is one of Irelands best know and most respected brands. It is Ireland’s state-owned energy company, established in 1927. With almost 10,000 staff, it operates across the electricity market, encompassing generation, transmission, distribution, and supply, serving over two million customer accounts in Ireland and Great Britain.
ESB has set an ambitious target to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. This goal involves a five-fold increase in renewable electricity generation capacity, aiming to expand from nearly 1 GW to 5 GW, and a two-thirds reduction in the carbon intensity of its electricity generation by 2030. The strategy also includes developing resilient infrastructure and empowering customers to transition to sustainable energy solutions.
The Challenge
As ESB moves towards net-zero carbon emissions, it needs to recruit significant extra resources in addition to the day to day recruitment and onboarding of new team members. It takes significant time and effort to recruit great people. With team members spread all over the country and in the UK, the onboarding team wanted a fun way to make new team members feel welcome, familiarise them with their sustainability goal and increase awareness of their values.
They came up with the idea of creating a Welcome Box for all new team members and were looking for a sustainable partner to help design, make, store and send these welcome boxes on demand.
The Project
Roody worked closely with the onboarding team at ESB to create something completely unique. Each product needed to be sustainable and branded with the ESB logo and branding so we developed an amazing Welcome Box that included:
- Branded Box and Tissue Paper
- Branded Keep Cup
- Branded Water Bottle
- Branded Notebook
- Branded Pen
- Branded Tote
- Branded Chocolate Bar
Each product was made as sustainably as possible with 6 trees are planted for each box.
The Result
The result has been exceptional. New joiners have been thrilled with the boxes commenting and posting online regularly. ESB has planted 10's of thousands of 🌳's and also completely transformed the onboarding experience.
The process has been seemless, Roody stores and manages for the ESB using the Roody online system to easily order boxes for new joiners as and when required.
